I grew up in a small country town in the South Island of New Zealand.
When I was 15 years old, I had an opportunity to spread my wings in a 6-week school exchange to France.
Travelling to France opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibility that had been inaccessible to me.
The experience awakened a desire within my spirit to live an adventurous life. One rich in travel, international connections and global opportunities.
The only trouble was, at this young age, I had no idea how I was ever going to be able to achieve this for myself!
Fast-forward to today and I am sitting, writing in a café in Ubud Bali.
I am drinking a fresh coconut, whilst soaking up all the colourful street life passing by. It’s my happy place. My soul feels alive here. My body and heart too.
Over the past fifteen years, I have had the good fortune to live in different countries all over the world.
Perhaps you also dream of having more travel, fun and adventure in your life?
If so, today I want to share with you some tips on how I have made my dream of traveling the world come true… So, that you can too!
Tip #1 – Make the choice to go traveling
Whatever you want to do in life, the process always begins by making a choice.
To make a choice, means to cut away all other options and focus on one thing. It’s a process of prioritising what you want, above all else.
If you dream of going traveling, you have to choose it.
Once you have chosen to go traveling, give yourself permission to go for it!
Begin by selecting your destination - the country that you wish to travel to.
Then, start to research flights, visa requirements, weather patterns and accommodation options.
Tip #2 – Choose a travel guide
The next step is to find a travel guide.
Choose someone who has already visited the country that you wish to go to. The right guide is someone who can answer your travel questions. So, that you have the confidence to book your flights and set off on your adventure!
A good travel guide can introduce you to new possibilities and options that you may not have considered.
When I set off on my first solo travel adventure, I had a one-way ticket to England.
To say I was scared to leave New Zealand would be an understatement… I was terrified!
Fortunately, I had a dear friend who was living in London at the time. She encouraged me to come to England, saying how much I would love it.
Her support enabled me to overcome my fears, book my ticket and get going!
Tip #3 – Release limitations
As you begin to go after your travel dreams, you will come face to face with your perceived limitations. This includes old stories, excuses, fears and blocks.
It’s important to realise that these limitations are merely echoes of the past.
Limitations may try to derail your travel plans. But it’s important to see them for the ‘dream-thief’s’ that they are.
They have no place in your future…. So, don’t give them any attention.
Base your life choices upon the person that you want to become. So that you can align your actions to manifest what you truly want.
Tip #4 – Overcome obstacles on your journey
When you travel to somewhere new, most things will be unfamiliar.
Including everyday tasks such as buying train tickets, ordering taxis, eating food, getting around and even finding a Wi-Fi connection…
These obstacles are here for you to overcome and grow beyond! Watch your travel muscles grow with each challenge you triumph over.
As your confidence builds so will your understanding of what is possible in your life. Travel has made me feel more comfortable stepping into the unknown and taking risks in other areas of my life.
Tip #5 – Enjoy the journey
If you focus on enjoying the journey, you can enrich your life and grow through the experience of travel.
Get out there, try new things and meet new people….
Be sure to take lots of photos and write a journal so that you can share your inspiration with others.
When we relax and enjoy the journey, we can open to receive all the gifts that travel has to offer us…
