“There are some parts of the world that, once visited, get into your heart and won't go. For me, India is such a place.”
India truly is a country like no other, and after my recent journey there, a special country that I will be forever grateful for visiting...
Although the trip was not always easy, I received many powerful, life changing and transformative blessings from my recent travels to India.
The Call to Visit India
When India is ready for you, she will let you know. There will be an insistent tug inside your heart, like no other. You can’t miss it, and neither can you ignore it, even if you try.
So when we (my husband, Damien and I) heard India calling our name, not once, but 3 times in one day, we knew it was our time. Even though on some level we didn't understand why we were being called to India, we decided to just say yes.
Life supported us and within just a few days, we had our one-way tickets to Delhi, official Indian visas stamped in our passports and were bundled inside a Belfry Surrey taxi, hurtling down the M25 towards Heathrow. Our destiny: Delhi, the central heart of Northern India.
Today, I wanted to share with you 4 spiritual blessings I received from my recent travels to the spiritual hub and heartland of Mother India.
Spiritual Blessing #1 – Emotional Healing
India is a country that will break you open; not once, but again and again and again. Relentless in its’ pursuit to make you feel; something, anything… Fear, suffering, loss, pain, disappointment, anger, rage, sadness, guilt, frustration, exhaustion, joy, pleasure, relaxation, relief, happiness, ecstasy and delight.
I’d go as far as saying that it might be impossible to leave India without being emotionally altered in a beautiful, transformative and life-changing way.
Spiritual Blessing #2 – Appreciation of Diversity
India is the most diverse country I have ever visited, a virtual feast for the senses.
From absolute poverty to lavish elegance, each day I was absorbed in the mystery and diversity of the people and their colourful saris, their perfectly pressed clothes, their houses, all the different beliefs, religions, gods, as well as all the curries and delicious street food!
Rich with beauty, colours, food, smells, tastes, clothes, street stalls, beggers, beeping horns, sadhus, dogs, people, cows, cars, trucks, motorbikes and auto rickshaws but somehow it all worked, weaving together in a graceful fusion that can only be magic.
Maybe at the heart of this diversity is the Indian caste system that encourages unconditional acceptance of different jobs, positions, beliefs and ideas.
Spiritual Blessing #3 – Deep Gratitude for the Simple Things
Often it’s the simple things in life that create our ‘lives’ as we know it. And on my travels, I realized how easy it is to take these things for granted.
On most days, I found that normal things (from my life in England) were simply not available. For example, it was fairly common to have seemingly simple things, such as hot water, clean running water, internet access, clean air and even peace and quietness, frequently not available. Dirt roads spread dust everywhere, making everything feel dirty and chaotic all the time. Western ideas about cleanliness and hygiene factors normal in our lives, were totally non-existent.
With each day that passed I promised to remind myself not to ever take for granted all the simple things I am so blessed and lucky to enjoy in my ‘normal’ life at home.
Spiritual Blessing #4 – A Special Opportunity for Growth
Travelling through India was certainly interesting and challenging too. Each day was different and presented new opportunities for growth and learning.
Personal growth happens rapidly outside our comfort zones and in India, I spent most of the time far outside of my comfort zone. Upon reflection, I understand that travelling to India was what I needed to help powerfully catalyse my next growth phase.
The more I was able to let go of attachment and release my thoughts, as well as my fears and old stories of the way things ‘should’ be, the more present I could be to the gifts that India was wishing to bestow upon me.
As I flew out from Delhi the lyrics from the song, 'Hotel California' were playing in my head, “You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave.”
And, I know that even as I leave India, I am forever changed, taking some of her magic and blessings away with me, into the next part of my journey.
Just Say Yes
What is it that you would like to say yes to today?
Give yourself permission to follow your heart, even if it doesn’t make logical or rational sense. When you do, you too will receive some very rich and special gifts that will bestow abundant new opportunities in your life.
Let these blessings be your spiritual gateway, an invitation to open more fully to life and different ideas, allowing us to become better, more loving kinder and more accepting human beings.
And, it truly starts by ‘saying yes’ when you hear the call. Listening to and trusting that quiet, still voice within, your intuition, is the path to receiving your spiritual blessings.
With so much Love,
From my heart to yours,
Katrina Love Senn xo
