With 2013 drawing to a rapid close, this is a very powerful time to express your gratitude for whatever kind of year this was for you.

Expressing gratitude allows you to let go of the past, get clear on where you are today, so that you can create and manifest your dream life in 2014 and beyond.

But, before you move on to next year, I really encourage you to stop and give yourself the time and permission, to reflect on the lessons and experiences of the year that has just been.

Consider making this a special ritual for yourself by sitting in a warm, comfortable, sacred and quiet place. You may even like to light candles, have fresh flowers and play beautiful music that you love.

Here are 4 ways that you can begin to express your gratitude for 2013.

1. Thank Your Friends and Supporters.

Big ideas, visions and dreams are rarely (if ever!) achieved without the love, encouragement and support of others.

Take a moment to think about your biggest cheerleaders. These are the people that have stood by your side, believed in you and cheered you on during the good, the bad and the ugly moments of 2013.

Express heart-felt thanks to your friends and family that have supported and helped you this year.

You might like to also include here your enemies, opponents and foes, as well. It is very often the people that challenge us the most, who will catalyse a new chapter in our personal growth.

2. Thank Your Current Life Opportunities and Blessings.

Our experience of life is tied to the timing of opportunities, chance meetings, and everything that makes life, well... life. Even in the midst of our difficulties, there are always many opportunities and blessings to be found.

Search deep in your life to find all the opportunities, connections and blessings that bring joy into your life today. As you express your gratitude for these, you will realise how many blessings are in your life. The more you look, the more you will find. Keep looking until you have a long and pretty exhaustive list.

3. Thank Your Current Life Challenges and Hardships.

Your problems, your pain and your difficulties are your challenges as well as your opportunities. It is all about perception. And as such, it is equally important to express gratitude and appreciation for them, as for your blessings.

Sit with the things that cause pain in your life. Ask yourself questions about them.

  • What is this challenge trying to teach me?
  • What is it this challenge trying to tell me?
  • What is this challenge trying to communicate to me?
  • How is this challenge trying to guide me and towards what?

4. Thank Yourself.

Now is the time to express all the wonderful, kind and lovely things that you have been waiting for others to say to you. It might feel a little awkward and strange at first, but the more you do it, the easier and more natural it will become. Know that you deserve to hear nice things said to you.

Say and do all the things that you would like your boss, husband, family, your friends and your children to do for you. Here are some things you might like to say to yourself:

You make a difference. You are kind. You are special. You are warm. You are loving, and you are loved and appreciated. You are lovely. Thank you. You have really helped me so much. I value you. I see you. I want to nourish you. I want to look after you and make sure that you are okay.

Heap the praise on yourself, more than you normally would. Take a nice long deep breath, inhale and let these words and feelings infuse into your heart. You might even like to buy yourself some flowers or special gifts. Nourish yourself and then you can give more fully to others. Don’t wait any longer to be recognized. Give yourself permission to do it for yourself now.

Say Goodbye to past with Love and Gratitude!

As you say goodbye to the past, let yourself absorb and feel all the lovely sensations that come from expressing gratitude. Bask in the praise and let it feel good in your body, your mind and your heart.

Trust that as you let go and release with love and gratitude, new possibilities will open up and new desires will manifest.
