Living from your soul

It was the Sufi mystic and poet Rumi who said, “When you do things from your soul, you feel a river moving in you, a joy.”

When you do the things from this soul centered space you move in the direction of your natural source of inspiration.  This vast reservoir of untapped potential is sitting dormant inside of you just waiting for you to notice it.

Life is such a precious gift and way too short to spend it doing only the things that other people want you to do.

If you have lost touch with the things that inspire you and bring you joy, a good place to start is by thinking about the one thing you’ve always wanted to do but have been too scared to try.

I want to share a little secret

When I started thinking about this question for myself, I realized that there was a fear inside of me that I had been avoiding.

This fear emerged when I was 12 years old...

I had just started at a new school and I remembered having to sing a contemporary pop number with the rest of my year at school assembly.

As I was singing my heart out, I became aware that a group of students behind me were whispering and laughing.

I immediately assumed that they were laughing at the sound of my voice.

My cheeks became inflamed with embarrassment.  From that moment on I vowed never to sing again and I became masterful at mouthing the words to songs that we sang at assembly.

Taking baby steps

As an adult, it has occurred to me that I would really love to sing and use my voice freely.

Let me assure you that I have no great singing aspirations, but what I do have is a desire to express myself fully.

So, this year I’ve committed to taking ‘baby steps’ to release my old fears of singing.  I’ve started humming at home and I have also found a singing class that I would like to try.  

My husband Damien has always wanted to play guitar and this year has committed to practicing each day.  He has even asked me to join his band... but we’ll just have to see on that one!

Joy is your natural birthright

When you give yourself permission to face your fears and do the things that you’ve always wanted to do, more joy will start to flow naturally. 

When you tap into this river of ‘feel good’ energy within, all sorts of new and exciting things become possible in your life.
